Family Business
When my wife and I got married in 2018, we made a promise to each other: we would take family photos every year. It wasn't just about capturing moments; it was about preserving memories, creating a visual timeline of our family's growth, and leaving a legacy for our kids and grandkids.
Recently, I stumbled upon a post on Instagram that highlighted the psychological benefits of family photos, like "slowing down the stress centers of our brain." It struck a chord with me, prompting me to revisit our collection of family photos over the years.
Starting with our wedding photos, each year's snapshots revealed significant milestones. Seeing my wife pregnant with our first child in 2020, and later with our second in 2022, was especially moving. It's incredible to witness the growth we've experienced together and to reflect on how much has changed in just five years.
Earlier this year, I was fortunate enough to win a giveaway by Kassie Feinga (@kassfeinga.photos), which offered four free photo sessions for the year, one for each season. I had entered the giveaway for in years past, and this time, luck was on my side! Our first session with Kassie at Studio Noire Noir in Salt Lake City was amazing. Despite our kids not being the most cooperative that day, Kassie's patience and skill captured some truly special moments.
Fit Check!
For the shoot, we opted for a chic/editorial vibe, dressing our family in simple black and white outfits, mostly thrifted. My look featured a white sheer top from Savers paired with a Tongan tupenu from Tanoa Hawaii, along with shots in my Ivy Park coat from their Noir Collection. We put together my wife's outfit using items from our closet by using a black satin maxi skirt and one of my oversized button-up shirts. We got a little creative with the “belt” she’s wearing and used two necklaces that we pinned to her skirt. Both of the kids rocked completely thrifted looks from Kid to Kid.
I'm thrilled with how our photos turned out and can’t wait for our next session with Kassie!
